Barga and beyond
BARGA
Barga, a fifteen minute drive away, sits in the heart of the Garfagnana region of north-west Tuscany - reknowned for it’s beautiful scenery, hilltop towns, mountain lakes and stunning wildlife. Often described as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, Barga hosts a number of fantastic festivals throughout the year - celebrating both the local culture and cuisine. There are also many wonderful restaurants and bars catering to all tastes and budgets.
LUCCA
Lucca is the provincial capital - about an hour’s drive away. Unlike its more famous and glamorous neighbours - Pisa and Florence, Lucca never feels quite so inundated with tourists, but is every bit as atmospheric. It boasts a wonderful amphitheatre, as well as incredible churches and towers. The city is surrounded by ancient walls about 500 years old, which provide the perfect setting for a gentle ‘passeggiata’ or, more memorably, a hired bike ride.
FLORENCE and BEYOND
Within a couple of hour’s drive from the house, you can find yourself in Pisa, Florence or on any one of the beautiful beaches of the Versilia coastline. Your choice is whether to immerse yourself in the stunning architecture and art of either of these iconic cities or enjoy a gelato from a beach club by the sea. Our advice is to do both!
GARFAGnANA
The Garfagnana region is encircled by the Apuan Alps and the Appenines. It is an area known for its chestnut forests, medieval hill top towns and astounding scenery. Walkers can climb to the top of 2000 metre high summits, whilst foragers can seek out porcini mushrooms or truffles in the dense, magical forests untouched by man.
